The concept of Time "Eghe" in Esan traditional thought: strenghtening the crooked edges Prof. Matthew Izibili- renowned Esan Philosopher Introductory remarks The concept of time,  is of little or no academic concern to African people,  Esan inclusive. There came a need to synthesize what is in African traditional  Philosophy  & Western  philosophy,  so to make for a proper understanding of African philosophy, by both African & non-African alike.  Philosophers across the divide, have taken it upon themselves to study issues that are of philosophical worth  or interest. Hence,  concepts like Reincarnation,  Predestination  & of cause, the concept of time came most aptly under academic lens. Historical account about time within the ambience of Philosophy,  is stereotypically traceable to Aristotle's Physics. Here,  time is defined as the number of movement in respect of "before" & "after". To him, Time is an attribute of motion. I

Some excerpts from the paper entitled "The Aigbokhaebholo Philosophy in Esan : An Examination of emerging Axiological issues " As humans, it is not in doubt that we are faced with daily hassles, as we attempt to meet up with demands of life. To this end, several efforts made to resolve the identified demands often leads to the use of names to reflect either victory or mastery of the demands; thus, serving as a therapy & a morale booster.  It is indubitably true that Esan people are avid inventors of names. Hence,  names & naming ceremonies in Esanland, serve multiple functions or purposes. They include but not in any way limited to the following : Psychotherapeutic function, repository of history,  as well as a medium of sustaining cherished values among the people.  Primarily,  name is a means of identity;  it  is also an expression of self, feelings &the situation of a man, who realizes  he has either  made great success of his life to the poor,  frustr

In Ancient Philosophical pontifications,   we may have heard or read about the Allegory of the Cave traceable to the enigmatic Plato.  Those in the cave as it were,  never understood that reality is not same with appearance.  This helps us to know that things are not usually the way they seem to be. Hence, it is morally wrong to judge people by what you barely see them put on.  Ukpon gue-uza!  Uza in Esan is a discussion for another day pls.  Yesteryears, Esan have the near resemblance of the present day breakable plates/dishes.
