Rape: Stephanie Okereke urges prosecution of brother, pledges support for victim Entertainment Actress Stephanie Okereke-Linus has reacted to the alleged rape incident involving his brother, Prince Daniel Okereke as reported by Vanguard Newspaper over the weekend. I am distraught and devastated to hear of the recent allegation of rape brought against a relative of mine, Daniel Okereke (my brother). While it is a very difficult time for me, and my family; I feel the need to make clear my position, lest there be any doubt. Rape is rape, regardless of who the face of the accused is. Indeed, the irony is not lost on me. I have spent my lifelong career advocating and living my conviction that women around the world should be able to live free of violence, sexual harassment or any form of abuse against their persons. This conviction led me to be involved in numerous initiatives combating violence against women in several countries including the U.S, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

NGO Urges Govt, Stakeholders On Gender Sensitivity A Non-Governmental O rganisation (NGO), Journalists Against AIDS (JAAIDS) has urged the government and stakeholders to work together on gender issues to prevent discrimination and stigmatisation. This was the thrust of a 3-day training organised by JAAIDS in partnership with the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) which held from Wednesday, November 19 to Friday, November 21. The training was entitled: Mainstreaming Gender into HIV and Sexual Health and Rights (SHR). According to the Executive Director of JAAIDS, Olayide Akanni, mainstreaming gender will promote planning and implementation of programmes to address gender concerns. Notagain Campaign Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has challenged private organisations to collaborate with various government organs to ensure Nigeria meets her Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Receiving the President of Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), Dr Fred Achem and members of the society on a courtesy call in Asaba, Wednesday, Uduaghan noted that meeting the MDGs was not the challenge of government alone but that private organisations must play active roles in the efforts to reduce poverty in the country.
