Rape of a 2 year old girl in Edo: indigenes call on IGP for Justice

The  group vowed not to rest on the issue until Justice prevailed. COVID-19: Edo records 72 new cases in 72 hours, 143 I workers infected

Edo State has recorded 72 new cases of coronavirus in the last 72 hours, even as the number of health workers infected with the virus has risen to 143 in the state, in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic. The Edo State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this in a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki. He said the 72 new cases recorded in the last 72 hours were reported from a total of 640 samples collected within the time frame, adding that the state currently has 306 active cases. He added that within the 72-hour period, there were 34 new recoveries and three new deaths. According to him, “44 of the 72 new cases were reported at the Real-Time PCR Laboratory at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) while 28 were reported at Laboratory at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH).” Noting that the number of health workers infected have increased significantly, he said, “143 healthcare w

COVID-19: Edo govt rallies hoteliers, others on adherence to health, safety precautions

The Edo State Government has urged stakeholders in the state's hospitality sector to ensure compliance with the health and safety precautions rolled out to halt the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). The charge was made by the Edo State COVID-19 Risk Communication Team during a meeting of the Association of Hotel Proprietors, Edo South, held in Benin City. Suspension of schools’ resumption applies to all educational institutions in Edo – Govt

The Edo State Government has said that the suspension of schools’ resumption is applicable to all educational institutions in the state. The government noted that the directive would be reviewed on February 1, 2021, when the outcome of efforts to check the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state would be evaluated. Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., who disclosed this in a statement, said the state government is taking drastic measures to limit the spread of the virus and protect lives and livelihoods in the state. According to him, “The Edo State Government hereby announces that the suspension of schools’ resumption is applicable to all educational institutions in Edo State, from pre-school up to tertiary institutions. “This directive subsists till February 1, 2021, when efforts to check the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) are to be reviewed.” He said the government is collaborating with communities and organisations on enlightenment and enforcements of
