Cabals frustrating our efforts to see Buhari – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, on Sunday, accused some cabals of trying to frustrate every effort being made by its President, Dr. Supo Ayokunle, to see President Muhammadu Buhari. The group faulted the belief in some quarters that it has not been pragmatic enough in responding to issues that concerned Christians in the country. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the President of the Youth Wing of CAN, Daniel Kadzai, said while the association had been standing up for the defence of Christianity, “the government’s disposition to some of the issues affecting Christians are not encouraging.” According to him, the leadership of CAN “has been denied audience with the President to brainstorm on how best to solve some challenges in the country.” Kadzai stated, “The Ayokunle-led leadership is poised to ensure that all Christians worship without fear or intimidation throughout the country. DSS invitation of Suleman: Why Christians must not protest – OFM

The Omega Fire Ministry, OFM, has cautioned Christians against any form of protest following the invitation extended to its founder, Apostle Johnson Suleman, over an alleged ‘hate speech.’ Recall that apostle Suleman had allegedly asked his members to kill any Fulani herdsman they find around his church premises. Following his comment, the DSS attempted to arrest him in the early hours of Wednesday but Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose , foiled the attempt. The DSS had also invited him for interrogation at their Abuja office today (Monday). Following the development, reports made the rounds that the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN was sending an entourage to accompany Suleman to DSS office today. Although CAN has dismissed the rumour , OFM has said any protest may create insecurity, urging Christians to stay clear. The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Olasupo Ayokunle, has disclosed that the body will not be sending an entourage to accompany Apostle Johnson Suleman to the headquarters of the Department of States Services, DSS. A media aide to CAN President, Bayo Oladeji, made the disclosure while reacting to rumours that the body was sending an entourage to accompany Suleman to DSS office today. Oladeji said though the body is solidly behind the fiery preacher, there is no plan to send an entourage with Suleman. According to Oladeji, “I spoke with him (Mr. Suleman) this morning. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died in a London Hospital where he was receiving medical care, the Nigerian Mission in UK has confirmed. According to the information released by the Nigerian Embassy, Buhari left the West African country for a vacation in the U.K in order to undergo medical checks. One of the President’s aides who accompanied him to the U.K and spoke on condition of anonymity said the President has been battling an “unknown disease” for a while now. Apostle Suleiman said he has told his church members in 42 countries to take action in case he's arrested. Apostle Johnson Suleiman has threatened to unleash terror on Nigerian embassies in 42 countries if he is arrested. Suleiman, who was ambushed by the Department of State Service (DSS) in Ado-Ekiti in the early hours of Wednesday, January 25, said he has told worshippers in his church branches across 42 countries to be on standby in the event that he is detained by the DSS. Nigerian diplomat’s son jailed for rape, murder

A court in Scotland on Friday sentenced a Nigerian man to life in prison after finding him guilty of raping and killing a sex worker in February 2016, Scottish press reported. Bala Chinda, a 26-year-old son of a Nigerian diplomat, murdered Nkechi McGraa by asphyxiation at an apartment in Union Terrace, Aberdeen, Scotland’s Press and Journal reported . The reports said Mr. Chinda approached Ms. McGraa, a 37-year-old mother of one and commercial sex worker, for her service the night before the incident on February 11, 2016. A violent rage broke out between the two when Mr. Chinda could not pay for Ms. McGraa’s service the next day, which led to her death after being beaten and suffocated, according to court proceedings. Mr. Chinda then fled the scene of the incident, destroying all evidence that could link him with the fatal attack. APC commends EFCC for arresting OSOPADEC boss, officials

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the EFFC for arresting Mr Johnson Ogunyemi, the Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC). The APC, in a statement by its Ondo State Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, applauded the EFCC for beaming its searchlights on the state and its finances. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the EFFC, on Wednesday, Jan. 18, arrested Ogunyemi and the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Dr Dipo Durojaye. Dakar - Gambia's president-elect said on Thursday he will be sworn into office at the Gambian embassy in neighboring Senegal, while there was no word from longtime leader Yahya Jammeh on the day that his mandate expired. The Facebook and Twitter accounts for Adama Barrow, run by his staff, said his inauguration would take place on Thursday at 16:00 in Gambia's embassy in Senegal's capital, Dakar. The Abuja airport runway is so damaged that it needs comprehensive repairs that necessitates it be shut down for six weeks, construction giant Julius Berger has said. The Managing Director of Julius Berger, Wolfgang Goetsch, made this known in his submission before the Senate on Tuesday at plenary. “There is absolutely no option than to close the runway for these six weeks because it is not a repair work. It is a new construction of the whole surface of the building.” Mr. Goetsch said based on the extent of damage, the runway could be fixed without closing down the airport, but would take more than two years. A 79-year-old landlady, Beatrice Olabisi, was on Monday arraigned in an Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ Court Ibadan for allegedly breaking into her tenant’s room. Olabisi, was arraigned on a one-count charge of `break-in and entering.’ The Prosecutor, Sgt. Oluseye Akinola, told the court that Olabisi on Dec. 11, 2016 at about 10 a.m. at Alafia Street, Mokola area of Ibadan, allegedly broke and entered her tenant’s room. Akinola said the accused person entered a room apartment occupied by one Robert Michael , with the intent to commit felony to with stealing. He said the offence contravened Section 411 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II Laws of Oyo State, 2000. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against her. Police, prison officials clash at Edo poll tribunal

There was pandemonium on Wednesday when some policemen and officials of the Nigeria Prisons Service clashed over the restriction of movement around the Edo State High Court complex in Benin . Movement of vehicles had been restricted by the police on major routes leading to the complex to ward off thugs and beef up security around the building, which served as the venue of the state governorship election petitions tribunal . operatives at the Federal High Court on Thursday prevented journalists from entering the courtroom to witness the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. Mr. Kanu’s trial had on December 13 been suspended abruptly following a rowdy session created by him and other defendants. The trial was scheduled to continue today. Mr. Kanu, and three others, David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu and Chidiebere Onwudiwe, are facing trial for alleged treasonable felony. The trial had in the past experienced a high presence of IPOB supporters who gathered outside the court chanting various anti-government slogans. The security operatives, who had vowed to ensure tight security at the venue of the trial, said they needed to get instructions first before allowing journalists into the venue. Mikel: I moved to China for Nigeria’s sake

Super Eagles captain and former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has explained his recent move to the Chinese Premier League to team up with Tianjin Teda. He said the move was primarily done to aid Nigeria’s push to be at the 2018 World Cup in Brazil. Mikel was frozen out of the first team picture by coach of Chelsea Antonio Conte, but the captain of the Nigeria team remained a regular for the national team despite his lack of games at club level. He decided to move to Tianjin Teda on a three year deal in order to get playing time, and despite the fact that he will be getting double his former pay in China, the 29 year old insist the move wasn’t all about money. “I could easily have stayed in Chelsea for the remaining six months of my contract but it won’t be in the best interest of my nation, as they need me match fit when the World Cup 2018 qualifiers resume”, Mikel told Owngoalnigeria.com. “It wasn’t an easy decision to make but I seriously need matches to stay fit for Nigeria.

A young Nigerian citizen has narrated how he escaped death in the hands of police officers » who were bent on stealing his property in the guise of interrogation. According to the victim, Bamisaye Olasunkanmi Michael , he had the bloody encounter after he retrieved a package at the Murtala Mohammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, sent to him by his brother who is based in South Africa. After collecting the package, Michael narrated further that on his way home, he was accosted by three police officers on a motorcycle who asked him what he was carrying and all explanation that he had just retrieved a package from the airport fell on deaf ears as the officers descended on him, beating him to a pulp » and collected the package and his phone. His saving grace came when an army officer who was driving pass, came to his rescue, collected the items from the policemen and gave them back to him before taking him to a hospital where he was treated. The Court of Appeal, sitting in Benin, Wednesday dashed the hope of the Young Democratic Party (YDP) and its Governorship candidate, Nurudeen Inwanfero, by upholding the judgement of the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal given on December 8, 2016. Following the dismissal of their petition against the declaration of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, as winner of the September 28 gubernatorial election in the State, the Petitioners had approached the appellate court, seeking to upturn the judgement. Joined as Respondents in the appeal are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Mr. Godwin Obaseki Barrister Santos Femi Owootori, Counsel to the 3rd Respondent, (Mr. Godwin Obaseki), however filed a counter motion against the appeal. Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has been removed as Senate Leader as serious indications emerged on Tuesday, January 10, that the in-houses crises in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a new turn. APC lawmakers have removed Ali Ndume as Senate leader and presented Ahmed Lawan as the new man for the position.
