Youths laud Obaseki’s industrialization policy

By Elvis Omoregie BENIN CITY - A Coalition of Orhionmwon Youth Elite Groups (COYEG) has lauded the industrialization policy of Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki. In a joint statement by its President, Comrade Jonathan Okunbor and Secretary, Comrade Goodluck Osama Ogbeide, the group, said the governor has demonstrated sufficient courage in building the capacity of Edo youths towards addressing the daunting economic challenges in the Country. The statement, appreciated Governor Obaseki “for the inclusion of youths in governance," following the appointment of Mr. Osamwonyi Atu, a kinsman into the Board of Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC). Akpomejero Friday, Benin Edo state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, yesterday said the misplacement of core societal values, are the bane of improper waste management in Nigeria. The governor made the assertion at a stakeholder forum held in Benin City, the State Capital, organized by the Junior Chambers International (JCI) ahead of their upcoming program, tagged  World Clean Up Day to sensitized the citizens and to brainstorm on ideas, and to forge the way forward and to decipher the role of government and private sector towards achieving a circular economy in a clean healthy safe environment in Nigeria. Comrade Aguebor said this at the auspices of the 2018 International Youth Day celebration, with the theme: safe space for youths. "The theme looks at how we can give youths enabling environment to actualize themselves, and be included in governance", he said. He said the space being agited for, falls within the following spheres: physical, economic, socio-cultural, spiritual, and political. Rotavirus vaccine cuts infant diarrhoea deaths by a third in Malawi

Liverpool, UK, 11 August 2018 -  A major new study has shown that rotavirus vaccination reduced infant diarrhoea deaths by 34% in rural Malawi, a region with high levels of child deaths. The study led by scientists at the University of Liverpool, UCL, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and partners in Malawi provides the first population-level evidence from a low-income country that rotavirus vaccination saves lives. The findings, published in  The   Lancet Global Health , add considerable weight to the World Health Organisation's (WHO) recommendation for rotavirus vaccine to be included in all national immunisation programmes.  Professor Nigel Cunliffe from the University of Liverpool’s Centre for Global Vaccine Research, one of the study leads, said: “Rotavirus remains a leading cause of severe diarrhoea and death among infants and young children in many countries in Africa and Asia.
