Oba of Benin pays a thank you visit to Olu of Warri

By Isaac Eranga WARRI: Traditional rulers have been urged to continue to work for the peace, security and development of their people. His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin stated this when he paid a thank you visit to His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri. The Oba of Benin said he appreciated the support and presence of the Olu of Warri and Itsekiri people during his coronation. The Omo N’Oba said the Itsekiri and Edo share common bond and ancestry, and harped on the need for them to continue to emphasis those things that unite them rather than what will create division among the people. The Benin Monarch described the visit as historic, and thank them for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage. On July 11, 2018 Simavi and WSSCC hosted a panel discussion during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, about “Putting Menstrual Health on the 2030 Agenda.” This event was the 5th of a live webinar series related to menstrual health management and was attended by over 100 in person and online participants. Volkswagen, Nissan, others hail Obaseki, expressed their interest in Benin auto park

As the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, works to expand the investment inflow into the state, key players in the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM), including Volkswagen, Jaguar Land Rover, Bosch, Toyota, Nissan, among others, have said that they are interested in working with the State Government on the development of the Benin Auto Park because of the state’s strong commitment to industrialisation and its welcoming policy frameworks. UN Women and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) hold a regional conference on the reduction of gender inequalities in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector On 18 and 19 June, Dakar hosted the regional conference on the reduction of gender inequalities in the WASH sector. Over two days and coming from twenty countries of West and Central Africa, representatives of sectoral ministries and United Nations agencies, elected officials, academics, researchers and representatives of civil society organizations and technical and financial partners conducted a review of progress on the extent to which the specific needs of women and girls are addressed in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector, with a particular focus on menstrual hygiene management (MHM). Organized as part of the joint WSSCC and UN Women Gender, Hygiene and Sanitation programme, the regional conference provided an opportunity to share the findings of the final evaluation of the programme

Sue Coates join WSSCC's management as Deputy Executive Director and Programme Director

By Isaac Eranga, WSSCC member in Nigeria Ms. Sue Coates, a respected professional with a wealth of experience in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), academia, civil society, the private sector and advocacy and communication, joined the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC)  today as its new Deputy Executive Director and Programme Director. Ms. Coates comes to WSSCC after serving most recently as Regional WASH Advisor for UNICEF in Eastern and Southern Africa and as Chief of WASH in UNICEF India, among other positions. At UNICEF, she provided technical advice and oversight to programmes in over 50 countries in Africa and Asia. In India, she also harnessed social movements to challenge social norms on open defecation, human rights and the position of girls and women in society. Working with influencers, she developed innovative advocacy programmes on sanitation and hygiene, including the influential  Take the Poo to the Loo  campaign. Ms. Coates also gave advice fo
