Edo Decides 2019: Political Parties' Candidates Present Manifestos

By Isaac Eranga, Benin As part of activities leading to the 2019 general elections,  a town hall meeting has been held in Benin. The meeting gave various political party' candidates the privilege to present their manifestos to the electorates. Speaking, the conveyor of the meeting and Executive Director of Social Development Integrated Center (Social Action), Mrs. Vivian Bello, said the rationale behind the programme was to look at the manifestos of those that will ascend into political leadership in Edo State. She said it is a forum of bringing the candidates and the electorates together, so as to know the agenda behind the various parties. "The idea is to help the people to make prompt decision in the endorsement of any candidate and subsequently after the elections, the electorates will be able to access the candidates", Mrs. Bello said. Fitness of Referees: Edo Refs roll out training programs

As part of effort towards improving the fitness of Edo Football Referees, the Edo State Football Referees Council has rolled out training programs for members. Speaking at the end of a routine training exercise at the UNIBEN Sports Complex in Benin , the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Johnbull Okundolor said the training program was in line with the one designed by the National Training Officer of the Nigeria Football Referee Association (NRA), Olori Sarah Jumoke Adeniran FIFA (Rtd.). He said the Council will not compromise on training standard, and urged all to cooperate with the training department as the training programs are rolled out. Mr. Okundolor emphasised that attendance to the training programs, guarantees match placement. World Radio Day: Obaseki advocates innovative programming to curb illegal migration, fake news

By Isaac Eranga, Benin The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made a case for the use of innovative radio programming to curb contemporary challenges in society such as illegal migration and the spread of fake news. The governor made the submission in commemoration of the United Nations World Radio Day, marked on February 13, each year. He said: “The transformational power of radio presents a crucial tool in mobilising people for action. This latent advantage should be deployed by stakeholders to find lasting solution to the scourge of illegal migration as well as the spread of fake news.” Noting that the watchdog function of the media bestows on practitioners the latitude to lead campaigns in checking societal ills, he said, “As we commemorate World Radio Day, it is important to stress the role of this medium in engaging all members of society and providing them with critical information they need to make life’s decisions. So, as we advance the campaign against irregular

Former Edo Ref. Chairman emerge Vice President 1 of Nigeria Referees

Ijebu-Ode: The immediate past  Chairman of Edo State Football Referee Council, Faith Irabor, FIFA rtd., has emerged as the Vice President 1 of the Nigeria Football Referee Association (NRA). Two other contestants for the same position, withdrew from the race prior to start of the election. Faith Irabor is a CAF Instructor and Match Commissioner. She is presently a Director of Sports with the Edo State government. She handed over the mattle of leadership in Edo State Referee Council to Mr. Johnbull Okundolor, a seasoned educationist and referee assessor.
