Women, Peace and Security Journal unveiled in Abuja

By Isaac Eranga Abuja: The maiden edition of the Women, Peace and Security Journal has been unveiled in Abuja. The journal whose foreword was written by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Federal Republic of Nigeria - Dame Pauline K. Tallen, OFR, KSG, is aimed at promoting the contributions of women to peace and security processes in Nigeria and across Africa by documenting qualitative and quantitative information based on facts from women, peace and security interventions in Nigeria. The journal reviewer- Prof. Patricia Donli said the journal provides academic background for research in women, peace and security, and that it's a dependable source for empirical information. She commended the publishers- West Africa Network for Peacebuilding Nigeria (WANEP Nigeria) and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Nigeria. Prof. Donli said the journal "will document qualitative and quantitative information based on fact from women in theory and practice

Disruption of Ossiomo Power Plant: Edo Journalists raised alarm

Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has called for a respite from the Nigeria Gas Marketing Company(NGMC) to the operation of the Ossiomo Power Plant. In his submission he asserted that since May 2022, the Nigeria Gas Marketing Company forcefully took over the gas plant that was built by Ossiomo Power at its site at the Ossiomo Industrial Plant, Ologbo, Edo State.  "By this action they are disrupting the flow of gas to power the plant and thus sabotaging the services of Ossiomo to its customers.  "All journalists in Edo State are directly affected by this unpatriotic action of the NGMC because the NUJ is a commercial customer of Ossiomo Power because they supply power to the NUJ Secretariat, enhancing the productivity of all journalists in Edo State "We want to note that the action of the NGMC in Edo State is similar to what Kogi State is doing to Dangote's Obajana Cement Plant; killing business, discouraging t

The election which was conducted on Thursday 26 October 2022 in Benin City, brought about the emergence of Comrade Ronke Ojeikere as the State Coordinator.  Others elected include: Patience Igbinedion - Secretary, Ufuoma Akpobi- Treasurer, Asije Sunday -PRO. Annual International Bioethics Forum to hold in December, 2022

All is now set for the successful hosting of the 2022 International Bioethics Forum being organised by the Bioethics Society of Nigeria (BESON) and New HIV Vaccine Microbicide Advocacy Society. This was contained in a statement signed by the LOC publicity subcommittee Chairman- Prof. Oduwole Ebunoluwa. Comrade Festus Alenkhe made this known through a media statement signed and made  available to journalists in the state. In a statement, the union Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe described the coronation anniversary as an auspicious occasion. According to him, the six years reign of the revered monarch has been very eventful and rewarding. SEDI calls for end to amalgam use for children and young women

By Isaac Eranga Benin City: The Sustainable Environment Development Initiative (SEDI) has called on African governments to enact policies that will help put a stop to amalgam use among children and young women, saying amalgam has some chemical substances that are harmful to the body. This was contained in a press statement signed by the Executive Director of SEDI - Dr. Tom Aneni. According to the statement, this year's Africa Week for Mercury-Free Dentistry focuses on implementing the children’s amendment to the Minamata Convention on Mercury. "Spearheaded by the Africa Region, the parties to the Minamata Convention unanimously amended the mercury treaty to set a worldwide floor: the end of amalgam use for children and for pregnant and breastfeeding women.   "Each year, the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry and the African Center for Environmental Health sponsors a day—now expanded to a week—to celebrate the transition for Africa to mercury-free dentistry.  "
