Edo Govt Bans Public Gathering After Recording First Coronavirus Case Edo State government on Monday announced that a ban has been placed on public gathering of over 50 persons in the state. The announcement was made by the state governor Godwin Obaseki during a briefing after the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in the state on Monday. The first case of coronavirus was confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on its verified Twitter handle. The health agency in the tweet also reported an additional five cases of coronavirus bringing the total number of cases in the country to 36. Cure for Coronavirus: NAFDAC approves Chloroquine for clinical trials

By Isaac Eranga The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the production of Chloroquine for clinical trials in the search for a cure for COVID-19. Director-General of the agency, Mojisola Adeyeye, made the announcement on Friday at the NAFDAC headquarters in Lagos. She, however, pointed out that NAFDAC is not approving Chloroquine for the treatment of  COVID-19 but for clinical trials to find treatment for the virus. “NAFDAC is not approving Chloroquine as a product that has can be used for Coronavirus because there is no submission to us for registration but because it is under clinical trials, NAFDAC approves medicines meant for clinical trials. “Therefore the medicine is being approved just for the clinical trials,” Adeyeye said. The decision was reached after a meeting with the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, his health counterpart, Dr Osagie Ehanire and a few other experts at the Health Ministry. NEPWHAN Calls for the probe of FMOH over N400 million disbursed for drugs By Isaac Eranga Abuja: Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to beam his search light on the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) so as to ascertain how budgets being released for drugs were managed. This call was made by the National Coordinator of the Network, Mr Abdulkadir Ibrahim, recently in Abuja.  He said the NETWORK was interested in knowing how the N400 million disbursed for drugs in the 2018 budget was managed. The coordinator, who condemned any form of corruption at the detriment of people living with HIV, said that lack of accountability of budgets for drugs was a recurring issue in 2018 and 2019. BREAKING: Court suspends Oshiomhole as APC chairman   By Clement A. Oloyede, Daily Trust An FCT High Court in Jabi, Abuja has suspended Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).  Justice Danlami Senchi, on Wednesday, ordered Oshiomhole to step down pending the determination of the substantive suit seeking his perpetual removal as the APC chairman. There have been calls from sections of the APC for Oshiomhole to resign and he was suspended by the Edo State chapter of the party last November.    Oshiomhole’s suspension by party  Oshiomhole was suspended last November by the Edo State chapter of the APC over his alleged role in the crisis rocking the party in the state. The decision, according to a statement signed by the State Chairman, Aslem Ojezua, and Assistant State Secretary, Ikuenobe Anthony, followed the vote of no confidence passed on Comrade Oshiomhole by the chairmen of the APC in the 18 local government areas of the state. 

Breaking: Supreme Court reaffirm Uzodima as validly elected Governor of Imo State

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, declined to restore Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Governor of Imo State. The apex court, in a decision by a seven-man panel of Justices led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, reinstated the judgement it gave on January 14, which declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress, APC, as the validly elected governor of Imo state. In the lead verdict that was delivered by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the apex court held that Ihedioha’s application to set-aside the judgement that removed him from office lacked merit. It held that the application was an invitation for the Supreme Court to sit on appeal over its own final judgement. Though it dismissed the application, the apex court refused to award cost against the Applicants. However, a member of the apex court panel, Justice Centus Nweze, disagreed with the lead verdict and gave a dissenting opinion that allowed Ihedioha’s applicatio
