Why we won’t let Oshiomhole have his way on Edo governorship primary —APC chieftain, Idahosa Chief Charles Idahosa, Edo APC Chieftain A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Chief Charles Idahosa, in this interview conducted online, speaks on the controversy trailing the mode of primary election to be adopted in selecting the party’s governorship candidate in the state, among other issues. What is your position on the thorny issue of governorship primary in Edo APC? On the issue of direct or indirect primary, it is very clear that primary is a domestic issue of a political party. There is a Supreme Court judgment on that. I think (Adams) Oshiomhole is just out to do a lot of destruction just like he did in Zamfara and other states. What surprises me most is that all the leaders of the party are just waiting for him to destroy the fabrics of democracy in the APC. Why they are doing that I don’t know. When people try to change story to suit them, it i

COVID-19 and contact tracing: a call for digital diligence May 13, 2020, Analysis / COVID-19 and conflict / Humanitarian Action / New Technologies Balthasar Staehelin & Cécile Aptel COVID-19 and contact tracing: a call for digital diligence As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact society worldwide, contact tracing apps are being developed in a bid to contain the spread of the virus. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a global humanitarian network with a long experience of working on health issues, including in the most challenging contexts, is inherently concerned with the debate on contact tracing. Rediscovering the Essence of Contemporary Esan Philosophical Thought

"UNUANE" PHILOSOPHY: EXAMINING THE OTHER SIDE OF A MANUAL CAR By Prof Matthew A. Izibili Hello my cherished friends,  thank God it's Friday. I wish to humbly draw our attention to the natural difficulty in serving the human mouth call in Esan as Unu. Primarily,  if I ask what is the use of this part of the body called mouth,  I guess you will be quick to say,  it is used for talking. Another may say for eating.  Yet another will say for other things  - drinking,  smoking,  to bless or curse,  repair or destroy, etc -.  Meanwhile, whichever of the selected usage of the mouth that made the list above & many more that you may know, I'm interested in reflecting on the power of the words from the human mouth. Following the physiological make up of the human being,  the mouth is little below the nose. It makes no serious difference if one has thick lips or not. But it makes a lot of sense to me if the arrangement of the set of teeth is proportional to the size of the li

"ANEGBEMUN" PHILOSOPHY IN ESAN & THE STRENGTH OF HER WORK ETHICS  By Prof. Matthew A. Izibili Department of Philosophy, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria Prof. Matthew A. Izibili This is a follow up of my last reflection on Unuane philosophy. It is a common saying in Esanland that the more supportive we are to one another,  the more progress that would be recorded. This sounds great & inviting.  But,  it shouldn't be taken for granted that it is not all & sundry that is ready & willing to be supported or assisted. After all,  whoever is desirous of support/assistance should be so disposed...kind words,  humility,  sincerity,  & heart of gratitude.  There's no two ways to make it work better than for the owner of a luggage requesting for a hand to lift such to his or her head, to be the first person to bend down towards the luggage before the person who is to give a helping hand will add his/hers. This is the ideal thing to do.  I wish to hum

The villages of Gon and Bolkin are Christian Farming villages that are part of Numan Local Government Area(LGA). They have long dealt with attacks perpetrated by Fulani militants and have suffered many deaths. Sadly, on Tuesday, May 12, at 2:30 a.m., Fulani militants again raided the communities and killed at least two people. They also destroyed several homes and stole supplies from the local farmers. One of the two men killed was working to help rebuild a primary school in the area that had been destroyed in a previous attack. The other has yet to be identified. The locals had attempted to call for military support and protection, but were unable to get any aid. 10 doctors contract COVID-19 at Kano teaching hospital  Not less than 10 medical doctors have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. The Chairman, Association of Resident Doctors, AKTH, Dr Abukakar Nagona, who made the confirmation to newsmen in Kano, on Tuesday, said the doctors were treating patients, who came to the hospital with symptoms later discovered to be COViD-19. “Eight of the infected doctors have been sent to Isolation centres, while the remaining two have gone into self-isolation in their respective homes, as they were yet to develop any symptoms,” he said. However, he attributed the vulnerability of the doctors to “the absence of adequate Personal Protective equipment, as well as the failure of patients to wear face masks when coming to the hospital for treatment”.

Nigeria’s Kano State Governor converts Christian under-age girl to Islam April 22, 2020   By Julia Bicknell   Nigeria Converts ,  Kidnapping ,  Nigeria ,  Sharia ,  Women Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje and Christian girl Becky, Kano State Government House, Feb or March 2020 A video showing the Governor of Kano, a state in the far north of Nigeria, leading an under-age Christian girl through the act of becoming a Muslim inside his State Government House has sparked outrage on Nigerian social media. World Watch Monitor has independently confirmed the video is genuine and the Governor has not denied what it shows: he leads Becky, understood by WWM to be 14-16 years old, in reciting the Islamic ‘shahada’ prayer, as she then accepts Islam. The power dynamics show two young girls literally hemmed in by an invited media crowd as the Governor and his aide appear to ‘show them off’ during the ‘shahada’ prayer. There is a professional camera light right behind Ganduje
