Russia citizens envisaged World War III

Moscow (AFP) - Nearly half of Russians fear that Moscow's bombing campaign in Syria could spark World War III, a poll showed Monday. Moscow, an ally of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, has been staging bombing raids in Syria since September 2015. Forty-eight percent of Russians were concerned that "heightened tensions in relations between Russia and the West could grow into World War III," according to a poll conducted by independent pollster Levada Centre last week. That figure was up from 29 percent in July this year. Moscow's air strikes have negatively affected the way Russia is perceived internationally, 32 percent said, up from 16 percent in November. Nevertheless, 52 percent of Russians said they back Moscow's air strikes, while 26 percent said they opposed them. Asked whether Russia should continue "intervening in what is going on in Syria," 49 percent said yes, while 28 percent said no. Western powers and rights groups have accused Syrian an

Our correspondent gathered that Ahmed had gone to the scene to know what transpired. “But the policeman suddenly brought out a very sharp knife and stabbed him (Ahmed) in the stomach. Seyi Law: Comedian talks rumours of impotency, fatherhood

Even as they say that delay is not denial, which turned out to be the case with Seyi Law , there was some torment before that saying could be proven. It is not a secret that the ace comedian and his wife, Stacey Ebere , were childless for five years after they got married. Although the couple lost a baby in 2015, they finally welcomed a baby girl in October this year. Speaking with Punch 's entertainment desk, Saturday Beats , Seyi Law tells of some of the rumours he had to deal with over his delay in having a child, including suggestions of impotency. He explained that even before he lost his child, he had been tagged as impotent. “The fact that we lost a child was very tough. Sometimes when you post something on the social media, people wonder why you bring your family issue to the social media. What they do not know is that you just want some words of encouragement. Sometimes you really cannot control the way bad news spreads. I have heard people say things like I cannot ge

Seven Steps for Safe and Satisfying Sex

Whether you’re having sex or not, below are some tips to ensure every young adult can have a healthy, safe, and satisfying life – or to simply prepare yourself for when the time comes! 1. Get to know your sexual boundaries. Whether it’s through online research, talking about sex with friends, or experimenting with masturbation, find out what is and isn’t for you. Ask yourself:     “Am I ready for sex?”     “What kind of sex am I comfortable with?”     “Do I want to ‘explore’ in college?” 2. Talk to your partner about consent and ways to ensure you both feel safe while engaging in sexual activity. Learn what consent means and how to practice it in everyday life—without killing the mood. 3. Educate yourself. Ask your RA or counselor where to find resources if you find yourself in an unsafe or uncomfortable situation. Find out who your college’s Title IX coordinator is and don’t be afraid to report an incident or intervene on behalf of a friend if you fear they might be in an unsafe

Sex Education: Take a stand against censorship

Posted by Isaac Eranga, a Health Journalist The need for accurate, unbiased sexual health information is clear. There are close to 20 million new sexually transmitted infections diagnosed each year and nearly half of all pregnancies are unplanned. Where do people turn for information on sexual health? Increasingly, the Internet—according to the Pew Research Center, 72% of internet users say they looked online for health information within the past year. But while that information is available on websites like ours and other sexual health organizations like Advocates for Youth, it is often censored on popular social media platforms. For example, an ASHA Facebook campaign to increase the awareness vaginismus—a health condition that can cause painful intercourse for women—was flagged by the site as promoting a “sexually explicit product.” Advocates for Youth’s Facebook ad for the organization’s Great American Condom Campaign was similarly denied for violating ad guidelines about “adult

FDA Approves 2-dose Regimen for HPV Vaccine

Image
Posted by Isaac Eranga, a Health Journalist On October 12th the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a 2-dose schedule for Merck’s Gardasil-9® HPV vaccine for males and females ages 9-14. The new schedule calls for the second dose of the vaccine to be given 6-12 months following the first. The 3-dose schedule originally licensed with the vaccine may still be used, too; this regimen involves three doses administered over six months. Studies show the antibody response generated with the 2-dose regimen is not inferior to that observed with three doses. Following the FDA decision the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance and now routinely recommends the 2-dose regimen for all 11 and 12 year olds. CDC said reducing the number of shots and clinic visits makes it more convenient for parents to protect their children. Gardasil® was introduced in the U.S. market in 2006 to prevent infections and diseases caused by two HPV types (HPV 16 and 18) found in

For example, in the last five days, we have pumped 400 trucks of product into Lagos State. The total consumption (in the state) at the maximum is 250 trucks; most of those trucks are diverted from Lagos to the hinterland of Chad and Cameroon,” he said according to Punch. “We need, literally, a whole army to stop this from happening. ‘There’s not enough electricity for all Nigerians,’ Minister says

Fashola made the admission on Monday, April 25, 2016, during the first Federal Government Town Hall meeting in Lagos. “I acknowledge that we are in a result-driven business and perhaps today results are measured by ‘in my ministry, how many roads have been finished? How much power do you have, how much housing can you get?’ Those results are not yet delivered but I assure you they will be delivered,” he said according to Channels TV. “Some results are becoming evident to us in government and they may seem intangible to those outside government and I understand that. They are results of clearly understanding why we are where we are. Should we continue to do what was done in the past if it hasn’t solved the problem? “ECN, the precursor to NEPA and PHCN was inaugurated by ordinance in 1950; that’s 66 years. Journalists escape death as stray bullet hits NUJ chapel

October 20, 2016 at 7:34 pm Sudden death of some Journalists in Kaduna was averted on Wednesday night as a strange bullet from nowhere narrowly missed hitting them as they sat in group, relaxing at the Secretariat of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) after the day’s work. The bullet landed on the floor, close to where the Journalists were sitting at about 7PM with a shattering sound, akin to that of a fallen broken bottle. Upon close examination, the State correspondent of Hausa Leadership, Abdullahi Tumburkai, who was standing very close to the point where the bullet landed, discovered that the object was hot at the time it hit the ground. “This is a live bullet, this is a live bullet”, Tumburkai shouted, panicking. The Journalists had to hurry up, cutting short their relaxation, and abandoned their food and drinks half way to vacate the Secretariat along Muhammadu Buhari Way. They could not actually ascertain the direction the bullet was coming fr

Saudi Arabia Executes Prince in a Rare Royal Death Sentence

From Town & Country Saudi Arabia says it has executed a prince who fatally shot another man in a melee, a rare death sentence carried out against a member of the kingdom's extensive royal family. The Interior Ministry said late on Tuesday it had executed Prince Turki bin Saud bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabeer in Riyadh. It did not describe how the sentence was carried out, though the Sunni-ruled kingdom often beheads the condemned in public. A ministry statement carried on the state-run Saudi Press Agency warned "whoever dares to commit such a crime that the Shariah penalty is awaiting." Saudi Arabia is among the world's top executioners. Such royal executions are rare, but have happened before. In 1975, the kingdom beheaded Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for assassinating King Faisal.
