…Recruits to be deployed to complement officers on the forthcoming elections By Isaac Eranga Benin City: The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has said the newly graduated Police Constables will be placed alongside other officers on election duties to ensure free, fair and credible electoral processes in the forthcoming general elections in the country. Usman Baba disclosed this at the passing out parade ceremony of the 2021 recruits general intake of Edo and Delta States origin, held at the Police Training School, Ogida, Benin City, Edo State capital. By Isaac Eranga Speaker Edo State House of Assembly perusing the women economic justice bill Benin City: The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly- Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun has commended the Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative (ECOWA) for successfully drafting and validating  the Women Economic Justice and Empowerment Bill. He said the bill when passed into law, will go a long way in empowering Edo women. Rt. Hon. Onobun gave this commendation after receiving a copy of the validated women economic justice and empowerment bill from the Executive Director of ECOWA - Ms Kate Duru. According to the Speaker, "the law will give Edo women the capacity to participate in, contribute to and benefit from growth process in ways that recognizes the value of their contributions". The presentation was made during the institute's 2022 convocation ceremony held recently in Benin City. While speaking on the importance of Bible School/Seminary, the Rector of ATI - Bishop Dr. Sunday Aigbefoh said any Pastor without a Bible School certification is like a driver without a driving license. BHI calls for the promotion of dignity and justice for survivors of SGBV

Priscilla Usiobafo - Executive Director of BHI As the world commemorate the 2022 International Human Rights Day, a youth-led feminist non-governmental organization- the BraveHeart Initiative for Youth and Women (BHI) has emphasised the promotion of the dignity, freedom and justice for survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in Nigeria. This was contained in a press statement signed by the Executive Director of BHI - Ms. Priscilla Usiobaifo. She said the recent judgment passed by the High Court of Justice - Auchi Judicial Division of Edo State few days ago where four perpetrators of Sexual and Gender Based Violence were convicted, was a big win for SGBV survivors in Edo State. She said this has helped increased public confidence in the criminal justice system's ability to sanction SGBV offenders which hitherto was low. Edo govt lauds ECOWA over validation of draft bill on women economic justice

Benin City: Edo State government has commended the Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative (ECOWA) for the successful validation of a draft bill on women economic justice for Edo State. This commendation was made by Edo State Commissioner for Finance- Hon. Joseph Eboigbe during a one-day validation workshop held in Benin City, in collaboration with Women for Fairness and Equity Organization (WEFON), with support from Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAFA). Hon. Eboigbe who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Obaseki on Gender Issues - Ms. Christie Onyonyor, said the bill when passed into law will help improve the economic well being of women and the standard of living in the society. A workshop on drafting and developing a legislative bill titled: 'A Bill for Urban Poor and Rural Women in Edo State', has been held in Benin City. Giving an overview of the workshop which was organized by Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative (ECOWA), in collaboration with Women for Fairness and Equity Organisation (WEFON), with support from Urgent Action Fund Africa (UAFA), the Founder of ECOWA, Dr. Mrs. Louisa Elkhomun-Agbonkhese said the bill  when passed into law, will be the first Women Economic Empowerment Rights Law in Nigeria.
