Catholic Priests had a peaceful protest earlier today in Akure, Ondo State against the disheartening killings in the middle East and other parts of Nigeria. ‘Every Soul Matters’, the priests said. The demonstration is coming days after suspected herdsmen stormed St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Ukpor-Mbalom Parish, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, killing two Catholic priests and 17 parishioners. The deceased were members of the parish who were in the church to attend the 5:30am Mass and burial ceremony.

FRSC Lacks The Powers To Impose Fines On Erring Motorists, Says High Court Judge

News from the source The Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) lacks the powers to impose fines on erring motorists. Justice James Tsoho held that FRSC cannot turn itself into a court of law by punishing those who commit traffic offences. The court gave this judgment in a suit filed by one lawyer, Mr Tope Alabi. The lawyer had asked the court to declare that only a court of competent jurisdiction can pronounce a person guilty under Section 10 sub section (4) and 28 subsection (2) of the FRSC (Establishment Act) 2007 and Regulation 143 of the Nigerian Roads Traffic Regulation, 2011. The judge declared the sections null and void for being inconsistent with Section 6 of the 1999 Constitution which vests judicial powers in the courts. EdoJobs, the state government’s job creation and skills development platform, is coordinating the training in the state and will, through its portal, supply participants as well as other logistics for the programme. Joint revenue commuttee: KWIRS hands over revenue collection back to LGs

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has handed over the collection of revenue in the 16 Local Government (LG) areas of the state back to their respective councils. This was disclosed by KWIRS Chairman, Dr Muritala Awodun in a press conference after the Joint Revenue Committee (JRC) meeting on Thursday in Ilorin, the state capital. He said JRC was established by law to ensure that there is harmony in tax administration in the State to prevent double taxation, deal with other revenue matters and enlighten the people appropriately about revenue processes and collection. Awodun noted that due to the success of KWIRS in improving the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the local councils entered into an agreement with the Service to collect revenues on their behalf and remit amount due to each council every month. As part of ongoing reforms in the state’s agriculture sector, the Edo State Government has called for off-takers of farm produce and livestock products to bid in its Agricultural Entrepreneurship Development Programme (AGEDEP). In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Programme, Prince Joe Okojie, the government said, “The programme, which has spurred massive production and created youth agripreneurs in the crop and livestock value chains, is seeking for off-takers."
