Groups Mourn Victims of Violent Killings in Nigeria A non governmental organisation (NGO), Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development Initiative and the Global Right, on Tuesday in Benin mourned Nigerians who lost their lives in different violent attacks across the country. To this effect, a procession was held along major roads in Benin City. The procession which was tagged, "National Day of Mourning"  saw protesters troupe out donning black Tee Shirts with inscriptions such as 'Not Just Number Nigeria Mourns, End The Killings'. The Executive Director of the NGO, Prince Israel Orekha said the 'National Day of Mourning is a citizen-led initiative to express solidarity and demand accountability for the security and welfare of all Nigerians. He said Nigerians are dying on a daily basis but no name can be placed on those who have lost their lives. COUNT DOWN TO THE 2019 CIVIL SOCIETY ACCOUNTABILITY FORUM STARTS NOW Morenike Oluwatoyin Folayan New HIV Vaccine and Microbicide Advocacy Society The Countdown to the 2019 Civil Society Accountability Forum that has held annually since 2016 started after the close of the two days meeting of civil society stakeholders held at Heartland Alliance Nigeria Boardroom, on the 2nd and 3rd of  May 2019. The meeting is scheduled to hold in Abuja in November 2019. The specific dates will be announced later. The meeting which brought together leaderships from the 15 Civil Society Networks working on HIV and AIDS in Nigeria reached a consensus that this year’s conference shall focus on accountability and domestic resourcing of the HIV response post NAIIS. The first day of the meeting was dedicated to listening and learning about the status of the national HIV response from critical stakeholders. Breaking: INEC announces new date for Kogi, Bayelsa governorship election - INEC has announced a new date for Kogi and Bayelsa governorship election - The election would be holding on November 16 as against November 2 earlier announced by the commission - According to the INEC, the change in date was as a result of various appeals for the commission to reschedule the polls The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Bayelsa and Kogi state governorship elections will now hold November 16. Leadership reports that the commission had earlier scheduled the process for November 2. Kidnappers strike, abduct 5 oil workers in Rivers It has been learnt that five oil workers have been kidnapped by gunmen within the Oil Mining Lease (OML) -55 operated by an indigenous oil company in the Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the development was confirmed by the Rivers police command, which said all hands were on deck to ensure the unconditional release of the workers. The report added that the police public relations officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said that gunboats had been deployed to trail the abductors, while assuring that the victims would be released unhurt. Controversy over real cause of Chiamaka’s death Following the gruesome death of 24-year-old Chiamaka De-Freitas after a Caesarian Section (CS) at Medical Art Centre, Lagos (MART), an autopsy have indicated cause of death to concealed haematoma (collection of blood), which may have presented due to bladder injury sustained during the CS. The autopsy, signed by Consultant Pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr. Francis Faduyile, stated that Chiamaka died from haemorrhagic shock and concealed haematoma (collection of blood) following a CS). The report also stated that Chiamaka had sustained a large bladder injury (4cm) during the CS, which was stitched up with four vicryl sutures. “There is a horizontal laceration on the anterior wall measuring 4.0cm and is held together by four vicryl sutures. “The urinary wall is covered by haematoma.
