Why Benin Central Hospital hasn’t commenced operation —Edo APC

All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, yesterday, disclosed that the 5-star Benin Central Hospital constructed by the administration of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, is yet to kick off because of the Health Insurance Scheme bill sent to the state House of Assembly by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

According to the party: “This scheme will make the cost of medicare affordable. The key to all these is a firm funding arrangement that would sustain the world class services to be rendered by the hospital that are intended to eradicate medical tourism from our national life.”

Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Chris Azebamwan, who addressed journalists in Benin City, said the party was not ready to join issues with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state over the issue of the hospital, “because the hospital will not be run by government. Government is going to put in place professional hospital administrators that will run the hospital. It will be run like a private public partnership that will give the best health care services that will be affordable to our people.”

Reacting to the allegation by the PDP that the recently organized three-day Alaghodaro Economic Summit to mark the one year anniversary of Governor Obaseki was a jamboree, Mr Azebamwan described the allegation as “part of the mischief of the PDP and I don’t think they deserve relevance because aside its abysmal performance through the years the PDP presided over the ship of the state and the nation, there was nothing to show for it and in the same manner the PDP experienced tragic defeat throughout the eight years of ex-Governor Oshiomhole till date in the state.

Azebamwan explained that the summit brought together leading lights in industry, academia, public service, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, as well as the ground-breaking ceremony of the Benin Industrial Park by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

The PDP is only jealous of the APC and its progress because they are out of power and they will continue to be. “Since 2007 that APC took power in the state, the PDP has lost relevance and the only way to make themselves relevant is to abuse the state government. Their claims are baseless.”
