BENIN CITY- Six suspects allegedly operating  illegal refinery around Agbede-Egonu river in Edo State, has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police, Edo State Command. This was made known by Edo Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, while briefing newsmen yesterday at the State headquarters on the success so achieved by the Command since he was posted to the State three weeks ago as the CP. 
Three suspects in the murder of Prof. Otasowie of the department of Engineering, University of Benin were paraded.

CP Kokumo also paraded three suspects involved in the kidnap of one Herienta and John Obasuyi in Ologbo, ward 10 of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. Items recovered from them include 2 AK 47  riffles, 7 round of 7.2 life ammunition and some money.

"Within three weeks, we were able to arrest 29 armed robbery suspects, 20 kidnappers, 55 cultists, 5 AK 47 riffles, 2 pump action, 33 cut to size, 1 riot gunner, 239 life cartridges, 10 assorted vehicles, assorted telephone, cutlasses, one million two hundred and sixty thousand and two hundred and 50 naira", said CP Kokumo. He promised to reduce crime and criminalities in Edo State to the barest minimum.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki said a new security arrangement that will enhance the operation of the police and other security agencies in the state will be launched by December 1.

Obaseki disclosed this on Thursday while briefing the press shortly after an inspection of facilities at the State Command of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), in Benin City.

He said the state government was already putting finishing touches to the new security arrangement and the tour of the facilities at the state command was part of the process.

The governor noted that consultations were ongoing with various security agencies and relevant stakeholders in the state ahead of the official unveiling of the framework by December 1.

He equally revealed that the new arrangement will factor in the creation of a Security Trust Fund and create a neighbourhood watch to be backed by law.

According to the governor, the state is currently receiving and reviewing proposals from security experts on appropriate technologies that will enhance the efficiency of intelligence gathering and policing.

The Edo Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo described the synergy between the Police and the Edo State government as perfect. Kokumo assured that the smooth working relationship will lead to drastic reduction of the crime rate in the state and engender effective police service delivery.
