PDP: A Metaphor For Shamelessness

By Ile Theophilus Ikhianose

As Governor Godwin Obaseki clocked one year in office, one would think that a well organized, people focused and objective opposition would critically examine and xray Mr Godwin Obaseki's one year in office on the basis of his silent but loud performance. But this is a far cry from what the Dan-Orbih-led administration of the opposition, PDP had to offer. What a shame!

Since his first day in office, Mr Godwin never rested on his oasis, he has been busy changing and redefining governance in Edo political landscape. Delivering people-oriented and development-centered leadership to Edo.

Little wonder that on his first day at work he visited Civil Service Commission, Secretariat, and Palm House buildings. In addition, Mr Godwin in his determination to effect positive change also visited Benin Technical College.

So much has been done by the Governor in terms of road construction and rehabilitation. His desire, is also to institutionalize change and focus Edo on a strategic developmental pathway that would outlive his administration as governor.

Recently, Edo and indeed, Nigeria witnessed perhaps the largest assemblage of investors, local and international in Benin to explore and exploit the vast and monumental economic and investment potentials of the State.

It was no surprise therefore that President Buhari admonished other Governors to emulate Mr Godwin Obaseki and the Edo template. Indeed, some of them did.

The hallmark of the event was the Ground breaking of the Industrial Park at Iyanomo, Benin City by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo. Mr Obaseki's focus is to minimise cost reduce the culture of waste, increase efficiency and productivity in the State while opening up its economic and natural hubs.

It is therefore a show of shame, or perhaps the lack of it for the only opposition in the State to engage in blackmail and finger pointing when it through its reckless leadership it plundered the collective Commonwealth and patrimony of Edo, draining it through personal financial pipes that remained unexplained and undiscovered till date.

More laughable is the fact that its leader, Dan Orbih who should be commending Governor Obaseki for the transformational steps to take Edo to eldorado has succumbed to the very lowest ebb of commissioning a half-baked traffic stand for EDTSMA.

Mr Obaseki provided motorcycles, motor vans, uniforms, personnel, towing vans, communication gadgets and so much motivation to EDTSMA officials. A stand is therefore nothing extraordinary as even an individual NYSC Corps Member earning N18,000 could even donate such.

It is therefore expected that PDP and its leadership should key into the developmental agenda of Mr Godwin Obaseki and join his strategic plans to revamp Edo as our people are now wise and can no longer be blackmailed by unscrupulous and self-seeking elements who stole our Commonwealth and expect us to be riddled with collective amnesia.

Alaghodaro to Edo people.
