Revamping and preservation of relevant historical sites on focus

.......As Commisioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora affairs visits historical cultural sites located at Unuamen Village, Ovia North East Local government

Unuamen, a village in Ovia north East local government area of Edo state, a community of about 15km from Benin City. Unuamen is symbolic and relevant in the history of Benin Kingdom, as it's related to the life and times of Oba Esigie and Queen Idia. The historical site in Unuamen dates back to 1501 during the reign of Oba Esigie and Queen Idia.

Just recently the honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Diaspora affairs Osaze Osemwegie-Ero and his team paid an inspection visit to the village.

The Okao of Unuamen Chief Engr. Kingsley Nogheghase Igbinosa appreciated the honourable commissioner and Edo state government for finding time to come inspect the historical sites in Unuamen. He expressed appreciation to government for the prompt response to his request. He stated that after seeing the good works of the current administration in tourism and culture,he was prompted to call on Edo State government to come inspect the historic sites in Unuamen, with the view of revamping and adding it to the database of tourist sites in the state.

Hon.Osaze Osemwegie-Ero was welcomed to Unuamen with a very colourful and beautiful display of cultural dance, the honourable Commissioner expressed appreciation for the hospitality and warmth welcome the community has shown.

Hon.Osaze said that the guided tour to the historical sites in Unuamen Village is inline with the Governor's vision of revamping and reviving our rich cultural heritage, as we are blessed with a Governor and his Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II who believe so much in promotion of our culture.

He noted that Unuamen is blessed with relevant sites relating to the life and times of Oba Esigie and Queen Idia, a story which many have read in our history book, thus revamping and preservation of these sites will attract historians and tourists to come visit the place ces where the event which dated back to over 400 years occurred.

Some of the historical sites visited by the commissioner and his team in Unuamen included:

Olekhu Namebo Shrine, Odigi shrine, Okutaesigie, Okebo: Where Queen Idia hosted Udo warriors game and the last point of call was the Ovia/Osse river, which link Iguorakhi and Gele -Gele to the left.
