Obaseki And His Uncommon Strength For Governance

Edo Economic and Investment Summit, Alaghodaro 2017 ended on a high with many investors indicating willingness to make Edo the home of their investment dreams after being thrilled by her massive strategic investment comparative advantages.

One would common-sensibly think that a rest from work by *Governor Godwin Obaseki* and the different strategic committees and sub-committees that made the summit a success for at least two weeks would be well-deserving.

Yet, Mr Godwin would never rest until Edo takes her leading place in the comity of Nigerian States.

This was demonstrated by his presence at the International Conference on Women Empowerment and the Fight Against Trafficking Persons in Rome, Italy. His host was the Presidente, Italian Chamber of Deputies, Hon Laura Boldrini.

The partnership anchored by Governor Godwin Obaseki on behalf of Edo State and Hon Laura Boldrini for Italian Government is targeted towards reducing illegal migration and integrating victims back into the society.

In his entourage was his amiable wife, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, a woman with passion and love for women and children, Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kabiru Adjoto, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Magdalene Ohenhen, Commissioner for Justice, Prof Professor Yinka Omorogbe, his Chief of Staff and a believer in youth development and leadership, Mr Taiwo Akerele.

The Nigerian delegation was led by Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, Speaker House of Representatives. Hon Omosede Igbinedion was also in the Delegation.

On many occasions Mr Obaseki had stated his commitment to fight and eradicate trafficking in persons through empowerment and massive job creation in the State.

Before his visit to Rome Obaseki had received Hon Boldrini in Edo State on a two-day working visit in July, 2017, where relationship between Edo State and Italian Government to eradicate human trafficking, empower women and develop of vocational and technical education was fostered

Speaking at the conference, Obaseki reiterated that his administration has built formidable structures for the rehabilitation and reintegration of victims of human trafficking and illegal migration who are indigenes of the state.

Obaseki who stated that "no fewer than 360 Libyan returnees have been received within the last 3 months" also canvassed support fro the Government of Italy, European Union and other bodies.
