COVID-19: Okeati Commends Ize Iyamu For Filling Leadership Gap In Edo, Endorses Him

James Okeati, an accountant and co-convener of the Edo Grassroots Ambassadors, has praised the interventions of Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu in Edo state towards curtailing the spread of COVID-19 and helping the people, especially the poor and vulnerable, adapt to the times without the pain of hunger and deprivation.

He said this in an interview where he faulted the state government’s lack of proactive and organized response to the viral disease and its misguided insistence on politics even as a dangerous threat to public health emerged.

“Let’s put things in their right perspectives and set aside politics, I think we could have done better as a state in the management of the crisis. However, we commend individuals like POI who has taken the initiative to fill the gap.”

“The state government would have done better and act faster. I think the state was not proactive enough in the management of the crisis. We know that we have Edo state indigenes are all over the world and therefore, we were a state at very high risk and should have responded better but quite unfortunately we were all engrossed in politics and focused more on the political crisis which was also mismanaged by the government.
Essentially, it seems the Govt is always reactive and doing damage control but ideally the damage shouldn’t have even occurred in the first instance,” he said.

His criticism mirrors that of the Nigeria Medical Association, Edo State Chapter. The association, in a letter addressed to the governor, amongst other complaints, bemoaned a lack of Personal Protective Equipment such as face masks for doctors and questioned the non-functionality of the isolation center at Stella Obasanjo Hospital despite the claims of the governor to the contrary.

James Okeati, in the interview, expressed his support for Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu after assessing his SIMPLE agenda and proposed policy ideas to address the issues holding back the socio-economic growth of Edo state.

He said: “I had already taken a decision to stay on the fence until I stumbled on the SIMPLE agenda by POI. I decided to take a look and I was highly impressed with his plan for Edo state. We had a very deep discussion about his plan for Edo state and the crisis rocking the state. I was quite impressed by his disposition to governance and approach to crisis management. He won my heart and at this point, I don’t think I need any consultation to give my support to POI. He really impressed me.”

He urged the people of the state to support Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu for a progressive Edo and not fall for cheap blackmail attempts made in certain quarters.
