COVID-19: Edo Football Referees' Boss Urges Members To Adhere To Precautionary Measure

Benin: The Chairman of Edo State Football Referees Council, Mr. Johnbull Nosa Okundolor said it was imperative for Football Referees to abide to precautionary rules spelt out by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in order not to fall victims of the Coronavirus, known as COVID-19. He said it was more so important because without Referees, there will be no football.
Mr. Okundolor who is a Premier League Referee Assessor, said this while answering questions from Online Journalists in Benin, on the rise of cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria. He said there was need for strict compliance to the guidelines stipulated by the NCDC and the World Health Organization (WHO).
"In order to keep the Referees in Edo State safe, and to adhere to the directives issued by the Nigeria Football Federation and the Edo Football Association respectfully, that all football activities be put on hold in a bid to containing the spread of the virus, the Edo State Football Referees Council, decided to suspend her weekly training programs.
"The WHO's guidelines such as: practicing of simple hygiene like hand washing with soap and running water, and the use of sanitizer which is made up of 60% alcoholic content; coughing and sneezing etiquette; observing the social distance rule of 1.5m or 2m; avoid putting your hands in your eyes, nose, and mouth; must be strictly adhere to, so as to cut the chain of the novel Coronavirus.
"Other safety precautions include proper cooking of raw meat and egg; washing of the hands with soap and running water after having contacts with live animals; distancing cooked food from raw meat; etc."
The Edo Referees boss commended the Edo State Government, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki for not relenting in curbing the spread of the virus in the State. He highlighted the training of 600 medical personnel in tackling the scourge and the provision of 280 isolation beds and 10 ventilators, as a great developmental stride. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye who was tested positive to the virus.
"I want to use this medium to thank Gov. Obaseki for appointing the Deputy Chairman of Edo State Football Referees Council, Comrade Mike Uhunmwangho as Senior Special Assistant on Basic Education.
