After declaring Obaseki winner, INEC ad hoc staff storm Edo APC secretariate

Barely two weeks after INEC declared Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the APC Winner of the Edo governorship election, youths alleged to be INEC ad hoc staff  in the election stormed the Edo State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, demanding for the release of the money the party promised them in the course of the election.

Speaking with the Nigerian NewsDirect, a respondent who said she served as a presiding officer at Olua primary school in Egor local government area in the suburb of Benin said the Edo APC promised to give each of the ad hoc staff the sum of N 20,000, which was never given to them. It was alleged that on getting to the secretariat in the early morning of Tuesday 11 October, the State APC  chairman -  Mr. Anselm Ojezua asked them to put down their names on a sheet of paper.

"They promised us N 20,000 each but as I am talking with you now, we have not seen any thing. We are tired of their continuous 'go and come back tomorrow'. Those of us here are from three local government areas - Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha and Egor", said the respondent.

Some security personnel employed by the Edo APC secretariate asked journalists to vacate the premises, saying "it was a family affair". They even threatened to go violent with the journalists if they refused to leave the scene.

When contacted on telephone about the issue, the  publicity secretary of Edo APC, Comrade Godwin Erahon said he was not aware of such arrangement, saying "if such arrangement exist at all, it is not from the State APC".
