Edo State to produce more FIFA badged referees, says referee boss

The Chairman of Edo State Football Referees Council, Mr. Johnbull Okundolor said the State Executive is ready to produce more numbers of FIFA badged referees in the State. He said before now, Edo State used to have up to five FIFA badged referees but now have just one.

Mr. Okundolor said this during a thanksgiving service held at the Assemblies of God Church, Ugbowo, Benin City, to thank God for his successful election as Chairman of the Edo State Referee Council on December 20th, 2018. He also said plan was on to increase the membership of the council.

The Edo referee boss said he will use his experience to take the State referees to higher height.
"Referee is a prestigious and honourable hobby. I joined duty my national youth service year in 1995. I have risen through the ranks and file and I know what referee administration is all about; having served in the Council as Secretary for two tenures, and the immediate past Deputy Chairman. I shall bring my experience to bare", he said.

Speaking, the Chairman of Egor Football Referee Society, Mrs. Rachael Enagbare said the emergence of Mr. Okundolor as Chairman, was divine. She admonished him to build on the legacies of the immediate past chairman- Faith Irabor, FIFA rtd.

"We have had many Chairmen, but non was able to achieve what Faith Irabor achieved. So, I want Mr. Okundolor to do better than that", she said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Oredo Football Referee Society, Mr. Nodolomwanyi Jonathan, described Mr. Okundolor as humble and hard working man, saying he is a genius when it comes to football refereeing.

On his part, an elder on the Council and a retired FIFA badged referee, Elder Emmanuel Otobise, said Mr. Okundolor's election was a sound victory which he deserved to have. He admonished him to always seek advise from elders.

The First Vice Chairman, Mr. Friday Obamwonyi described Mr. Okundolor as round peg in round hole, saying he is a man that has gone through the ranks and file of referee administration.

Mr. Sylvester Okobi, a football administrator in Delta State and retired grade one referee, advised Mr. Okundolor to rule with the fear of God and to always carry everyone along. "He was my pioneer Secretary in Egor Referee Society, I took over from him. Intact, he is a blessing", he said.
