2018/2019 Football Season: Edo Referees hold fasting and prayer program

Benin: As part of preparation for the upcoming football season in Nigeria, members of Edo State (Football) Referees Council led by the State Chairman Mr. Johnbull Okundolor, yesterday held a fasting and  prayer and program at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

Speaking on the topic, "Preparation for Success", the officiating minister, Pst. Dr. Cliff Ediae Ikponmwonsa said in every goal attained, there is a process of preparation. As an analogy, he said behind every goal scored in a football match, there are years of preparation. He asserted that it is in the process of preparation that one becomes great.

Quoting the book of Proverbs 10:9, Pst Ediae said there was need to work perfectly. He said working perfectly as football referees means working towards the good of the society in general and football in particular. He reiterated that there was no short cut to success.

The cleric also urged members to cultivate good habits and unlearn bad onea. "What has been your habits as referees? Is your habit inline with the rules and engagement of football?", he asked.
He said anytime a mistake is made, Jesus always give a second chance.

Meanwhile, a disciplinary committee has been set up to handle disciplinary issues in the council. The committee which was set up during the maiden executive meeting of the newly elected members has the following as members: Comrade Mike Uhunwangho- Chairman, Mr. Temigbe Roland- Secretary, Elder Emmanuel Otobise- member, FIFA Faith Irabor (immediate past chairman)- member, Comrade Dan Iruero- member.

Speaking, the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Johnbull Okundolor urged members of the committee to regard their appointments as a way of recognising their contributions to the growth of football refereeing in the State. He said his administration will not condol any act of indiscipline.
