JCI calls for more voluntary blood donation

The Junior Chamber International (JCI), Benin Metropolitan has charged active Citizens on voluntary and safe blood donation to ease the burden of accident victims and those suffering from different ailments in Nigeria.

To this end, a significant number of Nigerians have been enlisted into the voluntary blood donation campaign held at the Weekend in Benin City.

During the programme which was supported by Central Hospital Management Board and RAHI hospital in Benin, President of JCI, Bevy Efe, highlighted safety concern as the reason for the collaboration.

He tasked the volunteers to embrace healthy lifestyle haven pledged their commitment to save lives.

"We are here at the expense of our Area Directors who directed that we should use today as advocacy for awareness campaign with regards to blood donation. And we came out enmass as a group committed to humanitarian growth to ensure the exercise was a success. 

"We are obliged to sensitise the public why blood is needed to be donated and it has been very wonderful. We have been able to reach out and over hundreds of voluntary donors were here", he said. 

Addressing newsmen in relation to the exercise, the Team leader, Central Hospital Management Board, Dr. Cedric Odaro, a Laboratory Scientist, assured that the blood donated must meet the approved specification before they would be administered to the recipient.

Odaro who led other doctors to the venue, "the blood drive is a successful one because it is what we want as a people".

The Chairman of the Planning Committee, JCIN AMB.  Courage Eboigbe in his view said what informed the exercise is the courage to save live first maintaining that life without blood is useless and of no importance.

That members of the groups had embarked on a peacefully rally across some major streets in Benin to make disciples on voluntary blood donation before the exercise begun.
