Edo State government set to reposition the State's fire service

Edo State Commissioner for Youth and Special Duties, Hon .Mika Amanokha says the State Government is poised to reposition the State Fire Service for a better service delivery.

He made this statement when he paid a familiarization visit to the state fire service office yesterday to get acquainted with their activities and services. He added that the Ministry of youth and Special Duties oversees the activities of the state fire service and is saddled with the responsibility of mitigating and sensitizing the public on the ways to cub fire outbreaks and to ensure safety of lives and properties through the department of the state fire service.

The Commissioner stressed that Edo State Governor; Mr. Godwin Obaseki is interested in revamping the State Fire Service so as to make the fire service more responsive to emergency services of prevention, evacuation, and management.
He assured that state fire service that measures will be put in place to ensure that vehicles and equipments needed for the emergency services are always on ground and functional so as to effectively respond to emergency and mitigating fire outbreaks in the society.

The commissioner appealed to the general public to be conscious and compliant in preventing fire outbreak, adding that the Ministry will have to carry out re-orientation of the populace on how to prevent fire outbreaks.

The commissioner was taken on a guided tour around the various offices and fire fighting equipments on ground.

Earlier, the director of the state fire service, Mr. Agbonlahor Franklin appreciated the hon. Commissioner for coming to see them in their office and congratulated him on His well deserved appointment to serve the people of Edo State.

He briefed the commissioner of the services and functions as well as the challenges the state fire service is facing, he stated that Edo State Fire Service has been operating since 1984. He then urged the commissioner to help them in retaining the office at Forestry road, which was formally occupied by the Ministry of transport.

He stressed that the state fire service station should not be in an isolated area, adding that they are combat ready for emergency services. He also added that the fire service station should be centrally located.

The director solicited for government support in providing modalities for the effective response to emergency services.
