Edo Central decries marginalisation in Edo politics

The People of Esan in Edo Central Senatorial District, under the aegis of Concerned Esan Sons and Daughters have decried the marginalization of the district in the politics of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the group which rose from a meeting on Tuesday in Benin, in a communique, noted with concern the open marginalization of the people and the discrimination.

While urging the government to urgently intervene in the crisis rocking the state House Assembly, the group called for the immediate reversal of the speakership position to the zone.

In the communique signed by Mr Roy Oribhabor, the convener of the meeting, said since the South had the Governor and the North, the Deputy Governor, it was only fair for Central to have the speaker's position.

He however said that it was the position until it was truncated by the ouster of Dr Justine Okonobor as the speaker of the assembly on Monday.

The group called for the urgent and immediate reversal to this position if people of the senatorial district is to have sense of belonging.

They also appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency, intervene in the crisis rocking the State House of Assembly.

"We call on Edo state government to as matter of urgency intervene in the crisis in Edo state House of Assembly.

"We demand for the immediate restoration of  speakership to Esan man to promote balance of governmental position structure.

"We condemn in strong term the way and manner the impeachment was conducted because it lacks legislative principles.

"We reject the office of deputy speakership zoned to Esan nation and call for elevation of  Victor Edoror  position to speaker or nominate another  Esan extraction legislator as speaker.

"We call on Edo state house of Assembly to more focus and perform their constitutional duties accordingly.

"It is on records that Under two years four speakers in not good for performance and democratically dangerous for a state.

"Finally, we call on all progressives in Edo state to support this call because an injury to one is an injury to all therefore, this injustices and marginalization of Esan people should be address.

It would be recalled that the house of assembly was on Monday thrown into crisis following the impeachment of the speaker, Okonobor.

Okonobor was replaced by Kabiru Adjoto from Akoko-Edo in Edo North senatorial district of the state, while the former speaker, Mr Victor Edoro from Edo Central, was elected as the Deputy Speaker.
