Traditional medicine practitioner urge govt to appoint credible persons as TMB members

The vice chairman of the Edo State traditional medicine regulatory task force- Dr. Aifuwa Omoregbe has called on the Edo State government to appoint credible and qualified persons as members of the Edo State Traditional Medicine Board (TMB), in order to ensure high level of efficiency of the board.

He made this call while briefing newsmen in Benin city as part of the Africa Medicine day celebration. He said in the past, members of the board were not appointed based on credibility and the attendant effect was seeing members who could not different between personal and organisational interests and as such, the efficiency of the board was Hampered.

The erudite administrator however chided NAFDAC for favouring the rich. "NAFDAC is not doing well. The area they are not doing well is in their conditions - it favours only the rich. The machines they ask us to purchase is beyond our reach", Dr. Aifuwa Omoregbe said.

Dr. Aifuwa also called on the government to support the traditional doctors in the area of training and purchase of the state-of-the-art equipments for production and packaging of medicines.

"The government should embrace the traditional doctors so as to ensure that they are able to get what they need to succeed in their practice; especially in the area of training such as packaging and production", he added.

Dr. Aifuwa also said the Christians and the traditionalist are supposed to work together. He said traditional worship does not hinder one from being a christian. He also said pastors don't allow their members to worship in a traditional way because they are careful not to lose their members.
