Nigeria Red Cross hold capacity building workshop for Leaders

Benin City: In a bid to improving the skill set of members for better performance, the Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS), Edo State Chapter recently held a capacity workshop.

Speaking, the State Secretary - Mr Wilson Ekhomogiazin said the training was to strengthen the leadership capacity of NRCS leaders in Benin. He commended the Edo State Governor- Mr Godwin Obaseki for the developmental  supports given to the Edo NRCS. Mr. Ekhomogiazin also extolled the leadership quality of the State Chairman- Comrade Festus Alenkhe. 

"Comrade Festus Alenkhe has proven himself to be a role model when it comes to leadership. He has succeeded in attracting development to Edo Red Cross and has set a template for those coming after him to follow. I think it was his leadership prowess that qualified him for the position of Manager News- Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS)", he said.

On his part, the Branch Communication Coordinator (BCC)- Oghenetejiri Ovwigho Ugbede called for proper use of Red Cross emblems, saying "misuse of the emblems could jeopardize their protective function during armed conflict because the warring parties and weapon bearers may loss trust in what the emblems stand for.

"The use of the emblems is divided into two: the protective and the indicative. Those that fall under the protective inlude: medical services and religious staff of the armed forces; National Society Staff, facilities and vehicles when placed at the disposal of the medical services of the armed forces; the ICRC and the IFRC; Civilian hospitals, medical unit, personnel and vehicles, provided their services are free and assigned to the treatment of the wounded.

"Those that fall under the indicative use include volunteers, staff or property affiliated with the movement; the National Society, the ICRC or the International Federation; ambulances and first-aid stations".

Speaking, the State Chairman- Comrade Festus Alenkhe, who was represented by Pastor Monday Edogiawere, said the training is part of preparation for year 2022. He said it will help build the leaders' capacity to perform better in 2022.
