Manufacturer of guns napped by Edo Police

Benin City: Benedict Dogo, 68, from Ekperi community of Etsako Central local government area of Edo State has been arrested by men of Edo State Police command for manufacturing a locally made gun allegedly sold to suspected criminals two of which, were also in Police custody. 

Benedict Dogo was among the criminal suspects paraded recently by the newly appointed Edo Commissioner of Police - Phillip Aliyu Ogbadu who was just three weeks old as Edo CP. 

Benedict Dogo when interrogated,  claimed that he was a member of the hunters' association, that he used to produce guns for the hunters' in the community. He said he was approached by one Joseph Otuya to "produce guns for his friends who are also hunters", not knowing they were not hunters. 

Speaking, one of the suspects, Isah Joseph said one of his friends "wanted to buy gun, he directed him to Joseph Otuya, who in turn took him to Dogo".

Meanwhile, the Edo CP - Phillip Aliyu Ogbadu gave a snapshot of his achievement within the three weeks he has been in Edo State as CP.

"The summary of some major arrests and achievements recorded during the period under review are as follows: 13 cultists arrested; number of armed robbery suspects, 17; number of kidnappers, 11; number of suspected ritualists, 3; number of murder suspects, 6; number of unlawful possession of firearms suspect, 5; number of assault suspects, 2; number of rapist suspect, 1; number of kidnapped victims rescued, 2; number of suspects killed during operation, 8; number of AK47 riffles recovered, 2; number of TO6 riffle recovered, 1; number of locally made guns recovered, 8; etc.

"I want to at this time appreciate the cooperation and assistance given by The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu for giving me the opportunity to serve Edo state; Edo State Government under the leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, for providing logistic supports, information gathering and intelligence sharing, these have so far been helpful; and Officers and men of Edo State Police Command for their doggedness in fighting crime, commitment to duty and sacrifices. 

"I therefore, crave the indulgence of the Government and people of the state for unflinching cooperation and support in all areas of human endeavor in order to serve Edo State better. And to the Public, Landlords, Agents, Traditional Rulers, Park operators and Opinion leaders to be sensitive and responsive to new faces seen within their community. Security is everybody’s business.   

"Finally, I pray that God Almighty will continue to bless us with wisdom to police Edo State so that development and progress will be engendered", CP Ogbadu said.
