EU, IOM trained new set of Libya returnees on business skills

The European Union (EU) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have trained fresh set of Libya returnees on business skills and cooperatives in Benin City.

The Project Manager, Abrham  Tamrat IOM told reporters that the project is under the EU-IOM initiative for migrant  protection and reintegration in Nigeria.

Represented by a Senior Project Officer, IOM Benin Sub Office, Mr Aigbeze  Uhimwen explained that the project was in series, noting  that "the training will equip the returnees with the knowledge for their start up Business.

"After this training, we'll now commence their  reintegration proper thereafter they'll be empowered to  start a small and medium  scale business. Some will start as collective group while others will  start as individuals," the project manager stated.

He said the beneficiaries include nursing mothers, pregnant women and other returnees who were assisted by IOM to return to the country.

While advising the returned migrants to keep hope alive,  Abrham  Tamrat said "They should take whatever they've learnt seriously-this training they have gotten they can use it not only for themselves but also for their families and communities.

A trainer and Executive Director of Society  for the Empowerment of  Young Persons, (SEYP) Jennifer Ero described the  project as a 'holistic approach', saying "the four days entrepreneurship training will avail the trainees who are mainly youths to know the nitty-gritty of business and its sustainability."

Another trainer, Wande Pearse is optimistic that the trainees will explore the business skills imparted in them in their future endeavours.

"They are Nigerian youths who were misled and have come to realization they need to settle and focus here in Nigeria.

Some of the returned migrants including Christian Egwedo  and Osaretin Steven both were assisted to return to Nigeria May, 2017 commended the EU-IOM initiative.
