Oba of Benin to establish royal academy of performing arts

The Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II has disclosed plans to set up the Benin Royal Academy of Performing Arts at the Oba Akenzua II Cultural Centre, Benin City to provide opportunity for Benin people to learn Edo language, culture, art and craft.

The Oba of Benin disclosed this when he received the Edo Artiste
Association of Nigeria, in his Palace in Benin City.

On the request to have Edo African Magic in the DSTV, the Benin
Monarch said Edo people at home and abroad would be contacted on how to support the project, pointing out that it would help showcase the
rich cultural heritage of Edo people.

The President of Edo Artiste Association of Nigeria, Mr. RichyUgiagbe said they were in the Palace to solicit the support of His Royal Majesty in the promotion of Edo artistes, culture, tradition and
artistry of Benin Kingdom.

He requested for an office accommodation at the Oba Akenzua II Cultural Centre to serve as their Secretariat and stressed the need to
have Edo African Magic in the DSTV.

The Oba of Benin also received the Ebohon Cultural Troupe led by High
Chief OsemwingieEbohon who were in the Palace to present his new album aimed at promoting the rich culture of Benin Kingdom.

His Royal Majesty thank chief Ebohon and his troupe for promoting Edo dances, and assured him of the support of the Palace at all times.

The troupe later entertained the Oba and Chiefs present with different
cultural performances.

The Edo Community in Kaduna led by its President, Peace Okhuonghae
also visited the Oba of Benin.
