EUI Commences 2nd Semester Exam

IYAMHO: Edo University Iyamho (EUI) yesterday commenced its second semester examination despite the ongoing strike currently embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Speaking with journalists on the commencement of the examination, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen M. Omodia said that the University is not on strike as it is not part of ASUU, adding that the University is focused and has a vision which is quite clear. 

He said that the University was established to deliver world class university education to Nigerians, within Nigeria states, instead of going outside the country to be able to access world class education and “if we must do that, it will have the share compassion under the able leadership of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, that the academic system of the calendar should be stable and the import of that is to make us lay good foundation in terms of teaching and to also provide the functional basis of assessment,” he said. 

He said the university is not expensive neither is it for the rich alone as being speculated compared to what other students pay in other private universities.

Also speaking, Dr. Solomon Awuzie and Eng. Oamen Isaac, both lecturers, Department of English and Mechanical Engineering respectively said that Edo University is exceptional.

“Looking at the global world, we are not looking at the strike because EUI is ready to graduate students at the end of their course” adding that with the present management, the tempo would be sustained. 

They said that the 2016/2017 academic calendar of the University has been planned and nothing can affect the changes as students cannot afford to spend extra days or weeks for a program that is stipulated for four to five years in the school. 

They advised parents whose children are seeking for admission to use the opportunity of the 2017/2018 academic session currently on going at the University to bring their children to the school where quality education is guaranteed. 

On their parts, Miss Uzoka Victory Ufumnanya a 200 level student in the Department of English and Elenwo Uchechukwu Precious, 200 level, Computer Science student said that they were privilege to have been offered admission into the University. According to them, the infrastructure and qualified teaching staff make the University a world class and most preferred. 

They however advised parents to send their children and wards to Edo University for the ongoing academic year.
