Promote Family Planning Campaign, DevCom charges bloggers

Premised on the high rate of maternal mortality in Nigeria, the Development Communication Network (DevCom), has challenged bloggers on the need for a rigorous campaigns for Family Planning in Nigeria.
Omobonike Adebayo,the Programme Officer of DevCom made the call in Kaduna, at a two-day training programme for ‘Social Media Bloggers on Effective Family Planning Projection’.

According to her, the Nation will achieve it’s economic security if child birth rate is properly regulated.

According to Omobonike, over 700,000 unattended pregnancies would be averted if Nigerians understand family planning, its benefits and the intention of the campaigns, adding that the lives of over 4,000 mothers and children would also be saved.
She therefore, charged social media bloggers to become champions and advocate in the campaigns for family planning and ensures that their messages are well tainted in order to help the society understand the benefits of family planning.
She reiterates DevComs commitment to supporting any group who is ready to champion the course of family planning in Nigeria, saying that bloggers are in a good position to use their mediums to ensure that Nigeria attain the United Nations family planning projection.

Also speaking, Mallam Kabir Abdullahi, Kaduna State Team Leader, Nigeria Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), explained that women by their configuration are special and has unique roles in building the family and the Nation.
He noted, the absence of a woman in a household, affects the man and the children, even other relates, because their roles are unique and nobody can take their place.

Kabir, advised men to always consult with their wife before making babies so they can have a better control in spacing and limiting the number of children they want to give birth to.
He however, said that family planning is a healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy which the media must communicate effectively to the communities at the grassroot so as to educating, inform and enlighten them on the benefits.
