Jonathan campaign team adopts new strategy in Edo

By Francis Onoiribholo Bureau Chief Benin  Coordinator of Goodluck Jonathan campaign team in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has taken the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign to the grassroots, mobilising some high Benin palace chiefs to impress on the people to vote Jonathan and other PDP candidates.
Addressing some Benin Palace Chiefs at the Holy Aruosa Church, Benin City, Pastor Ize-Iyamu, who was accompanied by the former deputy Governor of Edo State Lucky Imasuen, Edo South PDP Senatorial
Candidate, Matthew Urhoghide and others, said they came on the instruction of  the president.
According to Ize-Iyamu, one of the reasons Jonathan is contesting was because the Oba of Benin told him to do so and cannot afford to disobey the Oba who is not only the Oba of Benin, but that of the South-South by virtue of the fact that the ancient Benin kingdom expanded beyond the old Bendel State.
“I therefore asked that you pray for him as elders of the land because in 2011, Edo South voted overwhelming for him and this time, he expects more from you.
“He is not the only one contesting and voting for him alone may put him in danger as he requires capable people to work with him at the national level. Therefore, he asked that our national assembly and state assembly candidates should also be voted for in this election”, he said.
The Jonathan campaign coordinator also told the palace chiefs that President Jonathan has done creditably well and deserves a second term to complete the good work he has started not just in Edo state but all over the country.
He cited some laudable projects by the president, which included the rehabilitated Ofosu end of Benin-Ore dual carriage, the ongoing dualisation of Benin-Auchi-Okene road, approval for the building of a new Federal Government Girls’ College to be sited at Ehor, the near completion of NPDC headquarters building at Iyekogba all in Benin as reasons why people of the area should reciprocate his gesture.
Responding on behalf of others, Chief Sunny Omoregbe, the Osafuoba of Benin kingdom and Chief John Oviasogie, the Eribo of Benin Kingdom said since President Jonathan has recognised their existence and importance, they will do the needful when the time comes.
