"We are here to work for you", Festus Alenkhe tells Edo Journalists

Benin City: The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State chapter - Comrade Festus Alenkhe said the new Exco of Edo NUJ was ready to work for the development of the Union. He said that was the essence while they were voted into office. 

Festus Alenkhe made this assertion when he led members of his Exco on a thank - you visit to Edo NUJ Federated Chapel. H "We are here to work for you", Festus Alenkhe tells Edo Journalistse reiterated that since inception of office, Edo NUJ has experienced monumental achievements.

"We have not come to say what we shall but to say what we have done as we turn 100 years in office. We were voted into office to work for you. We have succeeded in bringing infrastructural development to Edo State. 

"Our achievements include: provision of a 24 hour internet facility, installation of CCTV for security surveillance, reactivation of water supply to the press center, setting up of NUJ multi-purpose cooperative society, enrollment of Journalists into Edo State Health Insurance Scheme, relocation and construction of prayer point for Muslims, training of 30 Journalists on Basic First Aid.

"Others include Governor Godwin Obaseki's approval of the linking of the Edo NUJ Secretariat to the Ossiomo power plant, facilitation of the processing of International Passport for Journalists in preparation for foreign tour, erection of two pillars at the extended part of the NUJ secretariat building, empowerment of journalists through credit facilities," etc.

Speaking earlier, the chairperson of the chapel- Mrs Edenaru Shulamite thanked the Council Chairman and his team for their visit. She later requested for an office space for the chapel. Mrs Shulamite formally made her resignation known. 

Festus Alenkhe informed members that the resignation was accepted on the ground that Mrs Shulamite was a staff of the National Orientation Agency. 

A three man caretaker committee was set-up for the chapel. The members include: Dr. Isaac Eranga- Chairman, Osariemen Idiaghe- Secretary, and Comrade Wole Opatola as member.
