In a bid to curbing criminality and insecurity insecurity in Edo State, the Edo Progressive Indigenous Association (EPIA) also known as Edo Indigenous Movement (EIM), worldwide, has called on the Nigeria Police to put a stop to the incessant kidnapping and activities of banditry ravaging Edo State, saying the people of Edo has extremely been pushed to the wall and that if nothing is being done, the people would resort to self defense.

The Edo Indigenous Movement made this known when it visited the Edo Commissioner of Police - CP Ogbadu Aliyu Philip recently in Benin. The Edo sociocultural group frowned at the high rate of activities of bandits and herdsmen in the State which was once known to be a peace loving State.

Speaking, the Edo indigenous leader and president of EPIA, Chief Dr Bishop Omogiade Enoyiogiere Edokpolo highlighted the role EPIA has played in the past to reduce crimes in the State. He said EPIA has empowered many youth inorder to take their eyes away from crimes.

We want the level of criminality in Edo State to get to the minimal, hence we have to engage the Police. We've done our part; we've empowered a lot of youth with life supporting skills and as such, has taken a good percentage of youth out of crime in the State.

"We made the Edo CP to understand that our people has extremely been pushed to the wall and if nothing is being done, they will have no option than to apply self defense.

"There is information that most of the criminals that are charged to Court, are not being prosecuted and that justice is not being served because they  go through the back door and get released", EPIA Leader said.

On his part, the Edo CP assured that his men are working round the clock to curb every form of criminality including kidnapping, banditry and cult killings.

About the status of captured criminals that are charged to Court and are not being prosecuted, CP Ogbadu said: "Since I took over office, those things have become things of the past. I believe in justice, and that justice should always be served to the latter.

"On the issue of robbery, we've made tremendous progress and Edo people can attest to it that since I came in as Edo CP two months ago, crime has reduced by 20 percent.

"It has not gotten to the stage of self defense; Edo people should allow us to do our job", the CP said.

EPIA boss lauded Edo vigilantes for all the good work they've been doing in the State and urged them not to relent.
