Nationwide suspended strike: NLC is a disappointment, says EPIA

The Edo Progressive Indigenous Association (EPIA) also known as Edo Indigenous Movement (EIM) has condemned the suspension of the proposed Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike action as a result of increase in electricity tarrif and increase in petroleum products, describing it as disappointment and  betrayal of trust and contrary to the indigenes' choice.

This statement was made by the Edo Indigenous Leader and President of EPIA- Chief Dr. Bishop Omogiade Enioyiegiere Edokpolo in Benin City, while feeding questions from newsmen. According to Chief Dr. Edokpolo, the decision to suspend the strike action by the NLC is completely unacceptable by EPIA, and by the Edo indigenous people.

"We place all our hope, believe and trust on the NLC as a pressure group to pressurize the government whenever they come out with wrong decisions that can affect the people or that could depress the people's welfare.

"We call on Edo NLC and national NLC to review their stand because they are entrusted by the labour force to speak on their behalf. You being chosen as a pressure group to speak on behalf of your people, didn't give you the mandate to compromise for your own selfish interest.

"I call on the NLC as a body to review their leadership and if possible, dissolve it and have the right minds who have the capacity and mentality to Stan talk to defend the right and interest of the indigenes. The people are not happy with the NLC for coming into compromise with the Federal government.

"The world today is looking for an avenue to alleviate the suffering of their people. We keep on blaming the government. It is high time we started looking into our people who represent us before the government.

"Enough of this betrayal attitude of the NLC; the people, including the indigenes, and non governmental organisations, will not accept it", said the Edo indigenous leader.
