Niger-Delta Group hails Connected Advocacy over Edo 2020 governorship election

Governor Obaseki of Edo State endorsed the Vote Not Fight Campaign

Coalition of Niger-Delta Concerned Youth (CONCY) has lauded  Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development Initiative over their  Vote Not Fight: Elections No Be War campaign in Edo State. According to the group, the campaign helped in forestalling peace in the just concluded Edo State governorship election.

This commendation was contained in a press statement signed by the Publicity Secretary- Evelyn Oigbochie and made available to news men in Benin City. The group described the election as free, fair and peaceful election.

"We want to commend the Connected Advocacy for the campaign on non-violence election they carried out under the auspices of the Vote Not Fight: Elections No Be War campaign; the outcome of it is what played out at the Edo election. I want to use this medium to appeal to other civil society organisations to borrow a leaf from Connected Advocacy.

"We want to also thank the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for playing the role of an impartial umpire; they have proved to the people that they can be trusted when it comes to free and fair elections. The INEC election results online platform was really a welcomed development. The platform aided in election transparency (ET).

"The Security agencies also played a crucial role in ensuring the election was free, fair and peaceful. There were instances where they foiled snatching of bollot boxes. This effort led to the death of a ballot box snatcher during a gun battle in Esan South-East local government area.

"The Edo election has shown that the vote of the people can count. We of the Niger-Delta are happy about the outcome of the election; it will help in promoting political activism in the political landscape of the State", CONCY said.
