Football development: Ikpoba-Okha seeks support of Edo Refs

Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Council has called for the partnership of Edo State Football Referees Council as part of measures in developing football in the local government area.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Edo referees at the council secretariat in Idogbo, the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Eric Osayande, who was represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Barr. Osagie Igbinowanhia called for the synergy between the Edo Referees Council and the Local Government Council in order to ensure development of the sport in the locality.

"We are having a football competition coming up from May 6th, 2019 and at such, need the support of Edo Referees in terms of standard officiating", he said.

Speaking, the Chairman of Edo Football Referees Council, Mr. Johnbull Nosa Okundolor said referees activities include recruitment, training, participation in the Nigeria football referee, and Nigeria football federation. He commended the Council for organising a football competition, and said the Referee Counçil will always support them.

"This is a bold step in eradicating quackery from football refereeing in Edo State. Over the years, non referees have been seen officiating competion matches and is often characterised by blunders", he said.

Mr. Johnbull Okundolor used the medium to inform the council boss about the existence of Ikpoba-Okha Referee Society, and called for the council's support in terms of annual registration, buying of referee's kits, and financial assistance to attend annual national fitness test and seminars.

"Finally Sir, our visit will not be complete without condoning you on the death of your former personal security, aid", the referee boss said.
