Egor youths call for safe space

The Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Egor Local Government Chapter, Edo State, Comrade Peter Aguebor, has called on state and national governments to create enabling environment for youths to actualize themselves.

Comrade Aguebor said this at the auspices of the 2018 International Youth Day celebration, with the theme: safe space for youths. "The theme looks at how we can give youths enabling environment to actualize themselves, and be included in governance", he said.

He said the space being agited for, falls within the following spheres: physical, economic, socio-cultural, spiritual, and political.

Speaking, the State Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Innocent Ajayi, who was represented by the State Deputy Chairman, Comrade Michael Omomila, commended the United Nations for this year's theme, saying youths indeed need safe space in all spheres of life's endeavour to actualise themselves.

"I want to use this opportunity to call on policy makers to involve youths while drafting their policies, in order to promote youth inclusiveness", he said.

On her part, the Edo State Commissioner of Girls Guide, Mrs. Mary E. Ukpon commended Peter Aguebor for the way he has been piloting the affairs of the Egor NYCN.

"The Not Too Young To Run bill passed into law, has rekindled in me the believe that youths really need to take over. I want to also advise them to shun selfishness and imbibe the doctrine of love in whatever they do", she said.

A former Chairman of Egor NYCN, Dr. Henry Osawaru Asekunowo advised youths to develop themselves in different skills in order for them to rightly take their place in the scheme of things. He said when youths develop and engage themselves, they will not be used as agents of thuggery.

Highlight was match past by voluntary organisations such as the Man O' War, the Scouts Association, the Girls Guide, the Agenda of Peace, the Paramilitary Defence Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Red Cross Society, the Royal Rangers of Nigeria and the Royal Rangers Cadet.
