World Peace Day: P4P set new template for Peace building

The Partners for Peace (P4P) in the Niger Delta has called on bodies saddled with the responsibility of carrying out peace building activities, to engage in critical reflection on their strategies so as to decipher if they are doing the right thing.

This call was made yesterday by the National Coordinator of P4P- High Chief Pius Akomolafe in a press conference in Benin City, as part of celebration of the 2021 World Peace Day and the annual general meeting (AGM) of P4P. The high Chief said the 2021 AGM gave opportunity for looking at whatever had been done, "where we were and where we are, and projecting to where we are going to.

"The essence of which we are here today is to look back: how effective, how functional are the bodies carrying out peace building activities, are we doing it right? If yes, how can we do it better? If you are not doing it right, what can we do to make it right? This is the essence why we are here today.

"P4P is a corporate organisation structured with the mandate of promoting peace building I the nine Niger Delta states. It is a body with a board of trustees, and has a representatives in the nine Niger Delta states known as central working committee (CWC). The CWC oversees the structure at the State level headed by state Coordinators who oversee the activities of the states," High Chief Akomolafe said.

Speaking, the National Secretary of P4P, Pastor Edewor Egedegbe said peace is a must for all, without  regarding personality.

"With this on the background, God in his wisdom ask us to live peaceably with all men. If all security agencies abide by the spirit of P4P, there will be no much crisis.

A gender advocate, and Edo State coordinator of P4P, Agatha Osieke, Esq. call for gender balance in peace building activities but gave a plus to P4P for ensuring equitable balance in both sexes.

"Women has been playing important role but it is being underreported. Even in our homes, we see the role women are playing in peace building. Whatever the crisis, when a woman comes in,vthe tension is reduced", Agatha Osieke, Esq said.

P4P is a network supported by the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND); its mission is to build social capital around peace building through amplifying the voices of peace actors, building a network of self motivated peace actors and leveraging the network through facilitation, small grants and capacity building.
