Edo Elite Referee - Peace Ikerebe Wins Best Referee Award


Edo top most female referee, Peace Ikerebe has won the Soccer Queens NWFL Premiership Referee of the month award for the month of March, 2021

According to the organizers, the experienced referee beat off stiff competition from Lagos based Ruth Okafor and Ondo based Joy Ogunboye to emerge the winner for March.

Ikerebe officiated the game between Ibom Angels and Confluence Queens at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and was said to be fair with her decisions, receiving praises from the fans, players and the club managers of the two teams.

The Human Kinetics graduate was also at the middle of the park, when Rivers Angels hosted Sunshine Queens in Porthacourt, a game which ended in a rare draw.

The monthly award proudly sponsored by the NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi is aimed at honoring women referees who have strong work ethics, have knowledge of the game and are positive role models. The winner will go home with a cash prize of N25,000.

A team of women football experts and panelists voted based on reports gathered by assessors all around various centres.

Speaking, Peace Ikerebe thanked the organizers for finding her worthy for the award and promised not to relent in promoting the game of football in Nigeria.

"I dedicate this award to God almighty for giving me the grace and wisdom to officiate according to the laws of the game while on the field of play. I also dedicate this award to upcoming referees in Edo State. I want them to be serious with their training programs because God has a way of rewarding the serious minded", the award winning referee said.

It is on record that Peace Ikerebe is among the top ranks of referees in Nigeria has won laurels as a result of accurate officiating in the field of play, including the prestigious Pan-African Online Journalists Association best referee award. She has attended several MA Courses organized for elite referees in Nigeria.
