Rape of a 2 year old girl in Edo: indigenes call on IGP for Justice
Benin City: Edo indigenes under the aegis of Edo Indigenous Movement worldwide (EIM), also known as Edo Progressive Indigenous Association (EPIA) has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu and the Edo Police Commissioner to investigate the defilement of a two year old girl at Uronigbe community of Orhiomwon local government area of Edo State, and bring the culprit to book. The group vowed not to rest on the issue until Justice prevailed.
Speaking, the Chairman of Edo Indigenous Investigation Committee on Rape issues, Mr. Uyiosa Osamudiamen Fred said after a wide investigation, it was gathered that the 63 year old man name Mr. Sunday Igbinegha allegedly had a canal knowledge with the said 2 year old girl at urhonigbe community, saying, it occurred few weeks ago.
"When EPIA/EIM received the information, a committee was set up, of which I was made the Chairman and immediately, we went into investigatiion. We interacted will the father of the child- Mr. Nosa Felix and he revealed that Mr Sunday Igbinokwae was an uncle to the defiled child. He also alleged that the suspect abused the little girl with his fingers and not through penetration.
"We also spoke with a lady who happened to be a member of the family. The lady who pleaded anonymity, said the suspect had often been doing this and was always going scot-free. She Said Mr Sunday Igbinokwae did it before in Delta State, Warri to be precised and then, ran away to Benin City. He did the same thing in Benin City, and ran to a village called Igbekhue. He did same thing at Igbekhue village before he finally returned to Urhonigbe him home town.
"She revealed that their family members were trying to persuade the father of the child to withdraw the case which was already at the State Criminal Investigation department, but the father of the little child is not concurring to it, say when he do, the suspect will do it to another person.
"The medical report as released by the General Hospital, Urhonigbe, where a test was carried out on the girl, revealed that the little girl was actually raped.
Medical investigation was carried out by the little girl father, at Central Hospital in Urhonigbe, the medical report confirm the little girl defilement by the said man", Comrde Uyiosa Fred said.
Comrade Fred however expressed displeasure on the way the Police is handling the case. He said the investigative police officer (IPO) said a new medical investigation wouldd be done in a private hospital, whereas, a test had already be done 2 weeks ago at the Urhonigbe General Hospital which revealed that the act was done. "This led the father of the defiled infant to petition the IPO to the Department of State Security (DSS)", said Comrade Fred.
Comrade Fred while calling on the Police to carry out a thorough investigation on the matter, said EPIA/EIM will not relent in ensuring that Justice prevail.
