Edo Decides 2019: Political Parties' Candidates Present Manifestos

As part of activities leading to the 2019 general elections,  a town hall meeting has been held in Benin. The meeting gave various political party' candidates the privilege to present their manifestos to the electorates.

Speaking, the conveyor of the meeting and Executive Director of Social Development Integrated Center (Social Action), Mrs. Vivian Bello, said the rationale behind the programme was to look at the manifestos of those that will ascend into political leadership in Edo State. She said it is a forum of bringing the candidates and the electorates together, so as to know the agenda behind the various parties.

"The idea is to help the people to make prompt decision in the endorsement of any candidate and subsequently after the elections, the electorates will be able to access the candidates", Mrs. Bello said.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of Not Too Young To Run Movement in Edo State and Executive Director of Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development Initiative, Prince Israel Orekha said the town hall meeting created an opportunity for the electorates and civil society groups to engage party candidates so as to enter into a contractual agreement with them. He advocated for a legislation that will make the town hall meetings important for all aspiring political candidates.

On her part, the Executive Director of Ayere Community Development Initiative, Eghomwanre Ayere, called for the support of gender affirmative, urging that women should not be relegated from the scheme of things. She commended the organisers of the town hall meeting and thereby called for his sustenance.

A House of Representatives candidate for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, Hon. Pius Alile, described the programme as splendid and a prelude to good governance. He said he was always happy to share his manifesto with the people.
