Group lauds ANEEJ over fight against corruption

By Isaac Eranga, Benin

The Executive Director of Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development, a nationally registered non governmental organisation in Nigeria, Prince Israel Orekha has commended the Rev. David Ugolor led Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) for their effort in reducing corruption in the different strata of the Nigerian society.

Prince Orekha made this commendation in the course of the 2018 World Anti-corruption Day celebration organised in Benin City by ANEEJ, with support from UKaid. He said the fight against corruption cannot be overemphasized especially as merit has been crucified on the altar of mediocrity, thereby pulling the nation backward. He said it takes conscientious effort like that of ANEEJ to revise the social cancerous trend.

"I want to use this medium to encourage Rev. David Ugolor and members of his team not to relent in their effort at reducing the scourge of corruption in Nigeria.

"Corruption is cancerous in nature, when allowed to breed, eats deep into the different fabric of the society. This has made Nigeria a system where the norm is corrupt behaviour across all arms of formal system of the nation.

"I want to also thank Rev. Ugolor for including the youth in his anti-corruption campaigns and for the role he has played in the not-too-young-to-run bill and the Youth Can Lead Movement", he said.

The Connected Advocacy boss called on all individuals and organisations to emulate ANEEJ in the fight against corruption in order to make Nigeria better for living. He reiterated that corruption is a major factor that hinders development, peace and security.

This year's theme is United Against Corruption for Development, Peace and Security.
